GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) guarantees that the fibre comes from organic cultivation and that the entire process —spinning, dyeing and packaging— meets strict environmental and social criteria. It is the most recognised organic textile certification: when a yarn carries this certification or appears as GOTS textile, you know it is a GOTS-certified fibre with full traceability.

Organic cotton yarn for knitting with the assurance of GOTS certification
This collection brings together all our organic cotton yarn for knitting and our eco-friendly wool under one shared criterion: GOTS certification. Rather than checking brand by brand, at Garmon Yarns we have gathered 5 lines of verified organic fibres, designed for knitting with the reassurance of a controlled origin.
We work with three types of organic fibre, all certified:
- ▷ 100% organic cotton from Scheepjes and Gazzal, in weights ranging from fine (fingering) to medium (DK).
- ▷ GOTS-certified organic wool, fine, for projects with texture and colour.
- ▷ Organic wool and cotton blend, soft and versatile for garments and accessories.
Altogether, a good variety of colours to combine in any project.
What is the difference between organic cotton and conventional cotton?
Organic cotton is grown without pesticides or chemical fertilisers and, when it carries the GOTS certification, that assurance extends to the entire process: spinning, dyeing and packaging. The result is a cleaner fibre, soft to the touch and free from toxic residues, compared with conventional cotton, whose cultivation and dyeing do use chemicals.
If your project does not require certified fibre, you can also view our collection of conventional cotton yarns. But if you are looking for certified organic cotton, with full traceability and suitable for the most delicate skin, this is your selection.
Is organic cotton suitable for babies and sensitive skin?
Yes. GOTS-certified organic cotton is free from harmful substances, making it especially safe for baby’s skin and for people with sensitive skin or a tendency to allergies. These are soft fibres that do not itch, even in direct contact with the skin, without causing irritation.
That is why organic cotton for babies is one of the organic yarns we are asked for most often, and an organic yarn suitable for sensitive skin. If you knit for little ones, you will find more options in our collection of yarn and wool for babies, with soft fibres from a safe origin.
Organic yarns for amigurumi, garments and accessories
Organic cotton for amigurumi works very well: it has good body, defines stitches clearly and keeps the shape of each piece. Medium weights (DK) are among the most commonly used for dolls and accessories, while fine weights (fingering) are used for lightweight garments, shawls and summer clothing. One organic fibre for many projects.
It is also a very versatile organic cotton yarn for crochet, with a variety of colours that makes combining easy. If you want to buy GOTS-certified organic cotton yarn with the assurance of the certification, here you have a selection ready to knit; and for dolls, you can also view our collection of yarn and wool for amigurumi.
