Light fingering yarn is a superfine, lightweight yarn, perfect for knitting garments with beautiful drape and well-defined stitches: shawls, tops and delicate mid-season projects. At Garmon Yarns, we bring together a selection of yarns with wool, wool and organic cotton blends, and other materials such as metallic fibres. They are soft, easy-to-work yarns with an elegant finish, designed for those looking for lightness without compromising on stitch definition.

What is light fingering yarn?

Light fingering yarn, also known as superfine Group 0 yarn, is a yarn thicker than lace weight and slightly finer than a standard 4 ply. It usually offers between 450 and 575 metres per 100 grams and is knitted with 2.5 to 3.5 mm needles, creating lightweight, breathable garments with excellent drape.

It is a very versatile yarn for shawls, stoles, tops and mid-season garments with well-defined stitches. If you are looking for an even more ethereal, openwork fabric, fine lace-weight yarns will be a better fit.

How to choose and pair your superfine yarn

At Garmon Yarns, we select organic superfine yarns that provide softness and breathability for garments, alongside light fingering-weight metallic yarns designed for shimmering details. They all share a soft feel, defined stitches and a light drape that is very rewarding to knit.

If you want more body, you can knit a light fingering yarn held double together with another slightly thicker yarn, or move on to fingering-weight yarns, which are slightly thicker.

Unsure about the equivalence between yarn weights? You can compare all yarn weights and see where each project fits best.
