Rainbow Blocking Pins: 20-piece set for blocking knitted and crocheted projects
The Rainbow blocking pins (20 pieces) are blocking combs designed to tension and stabilise knitting and crochet projects quickly and precisely. By grouping several prongs into a single piece, they make it easier to block straight edges, points and curved shapes without having to place dozens of individual pins. The result is a well-opened piece, with defined stitches and a much more professional finish.
Each blocker combines a sturdy plastic handle in rainbow colours with sharp, rust-resistant stainless-steel prongs, which pass through the fabric and anchor into the blocking surface without damaging the fibre. This system works just as well on lacy shawls, scarves, tops, blankets or any project that needs the stitches to be opened out and the shape maintained while it dries.
What the 20-piece Rainbow Blocking Pins set includes
The set of 20-piece Rainbow blocking pins is designed to cover most blocking situations you are likely to encounter in your projects. It combines long blockers for wide sections with shorter pieces for corners, curves or fine adjustments, so you can adapt the tension to each area of your work with ease.
- ▷ 12 long blockers, each with 8 stainless-steel prongs for wide edges and straight sections.
- ▷ 8 short blockers, each with 4 prongs, ideal for curves, points, corners and small areas.
- ▷ Rigid plastic handles in rainbow colours so you can spot them quickly on the blocking mat.
- ▷ Set presented in a compact case, designed for carrying and storing the blockers without bending or damaging the prongs.
Features of the Rainbow blocking pins for blocking your projects
The Rainbow blocking pins for blocking projects are designed to replace T-pins when you need even tension and an edge that is as straight as possible. By concentrating several prongs in a single piece, they allow you to use fewer anchoring points while at the same time distributing the pressure on the fabric more evenly, avoiding uneven points or ripples along the edges.
The rigid plastic handle acts as a stop and makes it easy to press the blocker safely into the blocking mat. The prongs are made from stainless steel, sharp and robust, so you can use them with damp pieces without any risk of rust. In addition, the KnitPro Rainbow blockers include small holes that allow you to thread a cord or blocking wire along the edge, which is useful whenever you want very even tension on large shawls or blankets.
How to use the Rainbow blocking pins to block knitting and crochet
To use the Rainbow blocking pins, you follow the same principle as with blocking pins, but with fewer pieces and more control over the tension. First, wash or dampen the piece according to the care recommendations for the fibre and gently squeeze out the excess water. Then lay your project out on a soft, pinnable surface, such as a foam blocking mat or similar, well spread out and already roughly in the shape you want to achieve.
From there, secure the edges with the blockers: use the 8-prong ones on straight or longer sections, and keep the 4-prong ones for corners, curves or areas that need finer adjustment. If the project has points (for example, on a lacy triangular shawl), place the combs right at the base of each point so that they all line up. Once everything is in place, leave the piece to dry completely before removing the blockers and handling the garment.
Tips and tricks for blocking with Rainbow Blocking Pins
The Rainbow blocking pins give the best results when you adapt your technique to the type of project and fibre. On lacy wool shawls or blends with animal fibres, wet blocking or soaking usually works very well, stretching the fabric until the lace opens up nicely without overdoing the tension. On cottons or less elastic fibres, it is better to adjust the tension more carefully, adding short blockers wherever you see the edge starting to distort.
If you need a perfectly straight line along a long edge, you can combine the blockers with a cord or blocking wire threaded through the holes in the pieces and anchored at the ends. For larger projects (blankets, XL shawls), it can be useful to have more than one set of KnitPro Rainbow blockers so that you can secure all the sides at once without leaving gaps that are too wide between one anchoring point and the next.
