What is Performance Sockwool Prime Multi?

It is a sock yarn made from 75% wool and 25% polyamide, with a superwash treatment and in a 4 ply weight. Each ball weighs 50g and contains approximately 200 metres. Its main feature is that the colour changes as you knit, without having to change balls.

The wool provides warmth and elasticity, while the polyamide reinforces the yarn against friction at the heel, sole and toe, which are the areas where socks wear out first. The superwash treatment allows garments to be machine washed without shrinking.

A multicoloured sock yarn that changes colour as you knit

Sockwool Prime Multi is a multicoloured sock yarn: the yarn contains several shades that appear one after another as you knit. There is no need to change yarn or weave in coloured ends, and even simple stocking stitch creates a colourful fabric, with attractive colours in every ball.

The final result depends on the number of stitches, the size and the technique. The same ball will not look the same in a narrow sock as it does across the back of a jumper, because the width of each round changes how the colours are distributed. Garments made with this yarn can be machine washed on a delicate cycle at a maximum of 30°C and should be dried flat. The superwash treatment helps prevent the wool from shrinking or felting during washing, so the socks can be machine washed with everyday laundry.
