What is the Scheepjes Metropolis Colour Pack?

The Metropolis Colour Pack is a box containing all 80 colours in the Metropolis range, each in a 10g ball with 40 metres of yarn. In total, that is 800g and approximately 3,200 metres of Fingering weight yarn (a fine yarn weight, for 2.5 to 3 mm needles) made from Extra Fine Merino wool and nylon (polyamide).

The balls come neatly arranged in a gift box with transparent windows on the front and back, so you can see the wide range of colours at a glance. What is Scheepjes Metropolis yarn like to work with?

Metropolis combines 75% Extra Fine Merino wool with 25% nylon. The Merino gives it a very soft feel, while the nylon adds resistance to wear, which is particularly useful for heels and toes. It is a yarn that is a pleasure to work with for both knitting and crochet.

Using 2.5 mm needles, the manufacturer’s reference tension is 29 stitches by 45 rows over a 10 x 10cm square. Its fine yarn weight produces well-defined stitches, so colourwork motifs and textures show up clearly.

How should items made with this yarn be cared for?

Items made with Metropolis can be machine washed at 40°C on a gentle cycle, making socks and everyday accessories much easier to care for. Even so, it is advisable to follow the care symbols on the label so they retain their shape, colour and feel over repeated washes.
