What is Sensy Roving and why does it stand out?

Sensy Roving is a Bulky weight yarn made from a blend of 25% wool and 75% acrylic. Each ball weighs 100 g and contains 120 m, it is worked with 6 to 6.5 mm needles and is certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class I, making it suitable even for baby garments.

The wool provides warmth and the acrylic gives it a soft feel and makes it easy to care for, making it a warm yarn for everyday wear. It is part of the Sensy yarn range, which we import directly from Turkey at Garmon Yarns, where it is manufactured.

You will find it in solid shades, ranging from neutrals and earthy tones to reds, blues and greens, as well as multicolour versions that change colour in sections as you knit. They are neither marled nor gradient: each section features a defined colour, so the pattern appears on its own without changing balls.

Is Sensy Roving roving wool for felting?

No. In felting, wool roving is an unspun strand of carded fibre used for felting or spinning on a spinning wheel. This, by contrast, is a spun yarn supplied in a ball, ready for knitting or crochet using the needle or hook sizes indicated on its label.

If you are looking for loose fibre for needle felting or spinning, this is not the product for you. If you want a thick wool and acrylic yarn for knitting or crocheting winter garments and accessories, it is.

A thick Oeko-Tex yarn suitable for babies

This yarn is certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100, certificate number 16.HTR.77775, issued by Hohenstein HTTI in Class I. This is the strictest class within the standard: it covers articles for babies and children up to 3 years old that come into direct contact with the skin, and guarantees that the yarn has been tested for harmful substances.

This makes it a thick baby yarn with Oeko-Tex Class I certification that you can use for pram blankets, hats or warm jackets for little ones. What needles and crochet hook do you need to work with Sensy Roving?

It is a yarn for 6 mm needles: the manufacturer recommends 6 to 6.5 mm knitting needles, with a tension of 12 stitches and 17 rows over 10 x 10 cm. For crochet, it recommends a 4.5 mm hook, with a tension of 13 double crochet stitches and 14 rows over 10 x 10 cm.

How should garments made with this yarn be cared for?
