Although both materials come from the same plant, hemp yarn for knitting has been processed to be thinner, more flexible and suitable for textile work. In contrast, conventional hemp rope is intended for industrial or thick macramé use and is too stiff for knitting or crochet.
Main differences:
- ▷ Textile hemp yarn: suitable thickness for knitting and crochet, soft twist, sold in balls.
- ▷ Hemp rope: much thicker and harder, sold by the metre or in coils, ideal for decorative or utilitarian macramé.
- ▷ The yarn is combed or blended to improve its performance with needles.
